GOOD SCHLOCK, BAD SCHLOCK

When I was a kid the excellent John Zacherle, as Roland, hosted horror movies in Philadelphia. When he took his show to New York, changing his character's name to Zacherley, he was replaced by the not-so-excellent Dr. Shock.

Same schtick, different schlock value.

And in Pittsburgh, it was Chilly Billy Cardille (pronounced "kar-dilly"), famous for never beginning any show without being totally blotto.

It relates wonderful things like Pittsburgh being the last major market to adopt SNL (because it couldn't compete with Chiller Theatre), and Chilly also doing studio wrestling, a dance party show, and stock car racing. A true renaissance man.
