DROP PANELS

The format I use for my Fusco Brothers Sunday strips involves two "drop panels." These are panels (panel #1 and panel #4) that newspapers can "drop" from the strip if they want, to make room for other comics. This means that I can't have anything in them that's integral to the gag; they just have to move things along, with nothing really needing to happen in them. (When I first started, I would often throw a little bonus joke into one of them, but I soon decided this was a waste of a joke.)
